Thanks to Lori and Gary Rosenthal, co-chairs of the 2012 Mitzvah Day. The day was a great success with approximately 250 volunteers and 25 agencies participating. Thanks also to Alan Turner for all his creativity and hard work securing items from a wide range of vendors. Many thanks to all who participated in making this a meaningful experience for our congregants and our community.
Every other year, Congregation Shalom organizes a day of community service activities. Volunteers from Congregation Shalom are matched with community agencies and help clean, paint, take children and adults on field trips, cook and perform other tasks at a large number of non-profit agencies in Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties.
Agencies that have participated in past Mitzvah Day projects include Casa Maria House; Vision Forward (formerly the Badger Association of the Blind), Milwaukee Christian Center, Agape, Ronald McDonald House, Hunger Task Force, KidsFirst, St. Amelian’s, Habush House and more.
“The dedication and generosity of our volunteers are what have made this program a success,” says Rabbi Ronald Shapiro. “Mitzvah Day is a labor of love for many of our volunteers who keep coming back to assist year after year.”
